Obituary for Karen A. Franey

Karen A. Franey 1951-2017

Karen A. Franey

01/03/1951 - 10/29/2017

Karen A. Franey, 66, of Westerville, Ohio passed on October 29, 2017.  Raised in Girard, Ohio, Karen was the oldest of three daughters of Robert Miller (deceased) and Alice (McLean) Miller of Girard, Ohio. She is survived by her husband, Harry Franey; their daughter Tricia (Franey) Segnini and her husband Bob Segnini, her beloved grandchildren Jake & Katie; and their son Paul Franey and his wife Bethanie (Beidelman) Franey. She also leaves her sister Lynn (Miller) Walters (Jeff Walters); and her sister Carole (Miller) Guy (NY) (Elmer Guy); and several nieces and nephews.   Girard High School graduate (1968), attended Youngstown State University.   Karen discovered her passion for Jazzercise in the late 70’s and became one of the first franchise owners in Ohio. She continued to grow her business and the friendships that came with it for over 35 years. At times, she was teaching over 12 classes a week which inspired numerous students to become Jazzercise instructors.  Anyone who knew Karen, knew that life was not complete unless you added some bling. She never met a stranger, and took everyone under her wing. She loved sewing, cooking, and spending time with her Grandchildren. To lose someone you love is never easy. To lose someone like Karen (who was always smiling, positive, full of life and love, willing to jump in to help, always there for family and friends) makes it even harder. To quote her husband “The party didn’t start until Karen walked in”.  The calling hours for family and friends will be this Wednesday, November 1, 2017, 4-7pm at Hill Funeral Home in Westerville. Memorial gifts in Karen’s honor, in lieu of flowers, can be made to help fund research to find a cure for Triple Negative Metastatic Breast Cancer at:  http://www.supportohiostate.org/goto/karenfraney.
