Bernard James Schreiber, 85, Westerville, OH, passed away peacefully surrounded by his six children on July 28, 2014. Bernie was born in Pittsburgh, PA on August 31, 1928 and moved with his wife Fran and six children to Westerville, OH in 1971. Bernie retired as a Depreciation Engineer from Columbia Gas in 1992 after 38 years. Was a graduate of Duquesne University in 1949. Served in the U.S. Army for 2 years during the Korean War. Preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Fran Schreiber and parents, Bernard and Alice Schreiber. Survived by: Children - Gary (Anne) Schreiber of Gahanna, OH, Mary (John) Bronner of Westerville, OH, Joan (Bruce) Rhodes of Charlotte, NC, Beth (Tony) Navarro of Roswell, GA, Greg (Kathy) Schreiber of Pittsburgh, PA and Scot (Diane) Schreiber of Westerville, OH. Grandchildren – Brooke, Kelsey, Dustin, Lauren, Jennica (Alex), Brad (Maggie), Austin (Nicole), Colby, Jake, Abby, Ian, Conor, Katie, Christian, Rae and Paige. Great-Grandchildren – Miller, Porter, Sawyer and Haines. Bernie loved to travel to visit with family and friends. He especially loved the time spent at the North Carolina beaches. He was a loving and committed father who demonstrated that the “nice guys” actually do finish first! Bernie enjoyed reading books, watching movies, tending to his beautiful gardens, and cheering on his Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates. He will be missed dearly by his family and all who had the privilege to call him a friend. As Bernie and Fran would say, “We are Family!” Family will receive friends 11 to 2 PM and 5 to 8 PM Thursday at HILL FUNERAL HOME, 220 S. State St., Westerville, OH. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 AM Friday at St Paul Catholic Church, Westerville. Rev. Fr. Michael Hinterschied Celebrant. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.
