Arrangements

A memorial service will be held at Central College Presbyterian Church on Saturday, July 16th at 2:00 p.m. Calling hours will be held an hour before the service in Ballard Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in memory of Ned to the Annehurst Veterinary Hospital Rescue or the Humane Society of Delaware County.

I am saddened to hear of Ned's passing. I always enjoyed talking to you both when Ned came to the office to see Dr. Stiff. He never complained and was a joy to care for, all these years. Please call me if there is anything I can do for you. My sympathy to your entire family....

Ned L. Benedict, 91, of Westerville passed away on July 6, 2016.  Ned was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on October 8, 1924.  He earned his Eagle Scout in 1939. He served in the United States Navy during WWII and was training to be a pilot when the war ended. He returned to school following the war, graduating in 1946 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Tri-State College of Engineering (now Trine University) in Angola, Indiana. He was a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity. Ned moved to Columbus in 1947 and worked first for Curtis Wright, then the Burgess & Niple Engineering Firm, where he was an engineer during the construction of Hoover Dam near Westerville. The majority of his career was spent working for the Ohio Department of Transportation as a location-and-design engineer and then as a design-and-planning engineer. He was active in the 415th Engineer Brigade and was a member of Sunbury Golf Course. Ned was an easy-going man, who enjoyed his family, and golf and had a special affinity for dogs. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lily and E. R. Benedict, and brother, Phillip. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 62 years, Shirley Pittman Benedict; son, Tod (Jackie) Benedict, of West Chester, Pa; daughter, Amy (Ashley) Taylor, of Gahanna; and grandchildren Natalie (Adam) Mickey, Evan Taylor, Hannah Benedict, and Madison Benedict.
