Neil James Gouhin

11/01/1929 - 11/12/2015

Neil James Gouhin, 86 of Westerville, OH passed away at home on Thursday, November 12, 2015 while in the company of his wife and family. He bravely fought Multiple Myeloma cancer for nearly 12 years and participated in cancer research trials at the James. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Loverda (Brockway) Gouhin of Westerville, OH; daughter Cindy Crecelius (David) of Westerville, OH; his sons Jerry Gouhin (Diane) of Charleston, WV and Pat Gouhin (Terry) of Pittsboro, NC; and five grandchildren, Sarah McCrea (Andrew) of Newport News, VA; Michael Gouhin of Scottsdale, AZ; and Nicole, Rachel and Michelle Gouhin.

Formerly of Ashtabula, OH he is a graduate of Ashtabula High School Class of 1947. He attained a Bachelors of Science degree from Niagara University, Niagara Falls, NY.

Neil proudly became one of the “chosen few” in 1952 and served his country as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. Receiving an Honorable Discharge, he began a lifelong career with General Tire and Rubber at the Ashtabula Plant. At the time of his retirement in 1984, he was the Purchasing Manager responsible for procurement of all materials, equipment, supplies and services used at the General Tire PVC Manufacturing Plant and Olin Corp. TDI Plant. Neil appreciated the arts and Celtic music. He enjoyed photography, woodworking and golfing during his retirement. In his own words he was “…emulating the feats of Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus.” Along with his wife, friends and family he traveled extensively throughout the United States and abroad. He referred to his children as “…the three greatest accomplishments in my life.”

He was a family man who thoroughly enjoyed destination vacations with family, and visits to see his grandchildren. Among his loves in life were Lake Erie sunsets, Canadian fishing trips, ice cream, fine food and any activity with his grandchildren.
