Richard Serey

Richard Martin Serey of Westerville, Ohio passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, June 28th. Rick was born on Feb 2, 1949 to James R. Serey and Virginia M. (Scherer) Serey, in Washington D.C. He is survived by his loving wife Helisa Serey (Vitali) of which they were married for almost 49 years. Also, daughter Jennifer Weaver (Alex), son Justin Serey and youngest daughter Laurel Donohue (Terry) along with five wonderful grandchildren, Cara, Jake and Alexa Weaver, Sean and Charlise Donohue. He is also survived by his brother Kenneth Serey (Catherine), brother Daniel Serey (Patti), sister Janet Berryhill (David) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by his parents, James and Virginia Serey, and brother Tom.

Rick grew up in the Riverside section of Dayton Ohio, attending both Carroll and Stebbins High Schools, and completed his education at Miami University.

Rick started his professional career as Regional Director for Greene County Regional Planning. After his younger brother had a horrific outdoor accident in Colorado, he wanted to do something more to help handicapped individuals. He started his own business which blossomed over the years into the Visual Tech Connection. This endeavor was able to service thousands of fellow Ohioans with legal blindness enabling them to read, write and regain independence.

Rick will always be remembered as a very smart successful businessman, an extremely kind-hearted man, and a thorough, attention-to-detail individual. He was very loved by his family and all who were fortunate to know him.
