Obituary for Robert M. Braid

Robert “Bob” M. Braid, 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at Columbus Colony Elderly Care in Westerville.

Bob was born in Newark, Ohio on January 25, 1931, to Earl and Dorothy (Lytle) Braid. He graduated from the Ohio School for the Deaf in 1950 and attended Gallaudet College, but the love of his life was in Ohio, so he returned.

 

He married Lucy Ann Elliott on July 25, 1953 and eventually moved to Bexley, Ohio raising their two children there. He had a 45-year career at the Columbus Dispatch as a typesetter, riding the Broad Street bus to work every day.

 

Bob was involved in the deaf community and the Ohio School for the Deaf Alumni Association. He participated in the planning and creation of Columbus Colony and, along with his wife, the Miss Deaf Ohio pageants.

 

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and by his sisters Phyllis Barton and Molly Jones.  Bob is survived by his two children, Bonnie (Mike) Dailey of Mt. Vernon and Barry (Debbie) Braid of Pickerington. He had three grandchildren Meredith Dailey, Ryan (Jen) and Nathan Braid and three great-grandchildren (Ivy, Louis, August).

A visitation for Bob is planned for Tuesday, May 31st from 4 pm to 6 pm. The visitation will be at the Hill Funeral Home 220 S State St, Westerville, OH, 43081. 

A private funeral will be held the following day.
