Obituary for Sandra Sue Black

Sandra Sue Black 1945-2022

Sandra Sue Black

07/31/1945 - 03/27/2022

Sandra Sue Black, 76, affectionately known as Sandi to her family and friends, passed away at home, March 27, 2022, ending her long battle with diabetes. She is at peace now.

She was born to the late Earl and Rebecca Nance, July 31, 1945, in Mt. Sterling, Ohio. After the death of her mother Rebecca, Sandi was adopted into the Lockwood family by George and Margaret; Margaret was the sister of Earl Nance. Sandi graduated from Linden McKinley High School in 1963.

She married Earl A. Black Jr. in 1965, and lived in Columbus, Ohio where they started a family. Sandi is survived by her four children: Sherri (Black) Caraway & Christine Remley, Michelle (Dan Bridgman) Black, Sheila (Lance) Williams, Earl (Teresa) Black III. She is also survived by sisters Mary, Ruthie, Judy, Sally, and Diane, and brothers Marvin Nance and Bill Lockwood, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Sandi was preceded in death by her birth parents, Earl and Rebecca Nance, her adopted parents, George and Margaret Lockwood, sisters Bernadine and Betty, brothers Jack, Gene, Raymond, Bill, Donald, and Ronnie.

Sandi worked at Kroger for many years before moving on to Meijer grocery store, from where she retired in 2021. She loved her job because she loved people. At Kroger, it had been said that even though there were open register lanes available, people would wait in Sandi’s line, just for an opportunity to chat with her. It brightened their day. Getting to greet her customers with her bright smile was her greatest joy, besides spending time with her family. The holidays were her favorite time of year because she could then be surrounded by all her loved ones. She will be sorely missed.
