Ernest G Witney, age 75, peacefully passed away on January 10th, 2022. Ernie was born in Inglewood, CA on October 10th, 1946.

He was a man of many talents:

Ernie raised and loved Irish Wolfhounds. In mid 70’s was a member and  a President of Heart of Ohio Site hound club.

He began his quality control inspection career at Accuray in 1979. He had an active career in Space and Aviation Industry (Space Shuttle/B1B Bomber) as he worked as a quality control manager for Rockwell International and McDonnell Douglas.

Ernie was involved with farming and when the Columbus McDonnell Douglas plant shutdown he built a greenhouse which transformed into Witney’s Garden Market . He was active member in Farm Bureau and enjoyed supporting Hartford Fair.

Later Ernie transformed the garden market to a full scale gas station, convenience store, and restaurant known as Ernie’s Oasis that was later sold.

Ernie and Kathy continued restaurant pizza business for some years after (Jersey Joes and Peppers Pizza).

In 2006 Ernie worked as a loan officer for a few years before retiring.

When he retired continued his life long learning and would also help research for others.  He was a stranger to no one and would go out of his way to lend a helping hand.

Ernie was preceded in death by his parents Ernest & Anna, Brother Bill, Sisters Diane & Dale, beloved Daughter Chelley Witney. He is survived by his wife Kathy O’Reilly Witney, son Bud (Carol) Witney) , grandchildren Mariana, Gabby, Gina, and Quincy and loved Irish Wolfhound Donagan.

He was loved by many and will be missed. A celebration of life will be held January 25th, 2022 6:00PM-8PM, at Hill Funeral Home, 220 S State St., Westerville, OH  43081

The Chelley Foundation - 2248

The funds name is in honor of Ernie and Kathy’s daughter Chelley Witney. Chelley died at a very tender age and the grief experienced at her passing will never be forgotten. Both Ernie and Chelley died from a virus.
