Katrina’s life on this earth was full and beautiful! I remember her as a cute strawberry blonde baby and decided after having 4 sons we must keep going fir a girl. The pain you must feel is heart wrenching but may the majority of your days be full of contentment knowing she was wise beyond her years which helped her make the most important decisions in life, to love and serve The Lord Jesus and her family and others! Our deepest love and prayers to you all in these days to come. Love, The Naayers Family

Obituary for Katrina Carrico

Katrina Carrico 1999-2021

Katrina Carrico

12/27/1999 - 11/19/2021

We greeted Katrina Christine Carrico on December 27th 1999.  She would be only 22 yrs old this year on Dec 27th.  During her entire life she was entirely rooted in God and who she was.  On November 19th 2021, the Lord called her home.  Her work with us here has been finished.

To all who knew Katrina she was a kind-hearted, upbeat compassionate person. She was loved by many. She had a way of making you feel at ease with her warm inviting smile. By her classmates at Bowling Green State University Music Department, she was referred to as the music department “Walmart greeter”. With her family and fellow musicians, she was always known as a team player. The things that Katrina held most dear were faith, family and her music.

Katrina’s love of music started at an early age.  She began playing the piano at age 5 and the violin at age 6.  Though both provided enjoyment, the violin was where she found herself.

By age 12, she was performing in the Columbus Symphony Young Musician competition where she was chosen as a finalist to play in the Young Musician’s Showcase at the Ohio Theater. By age 15, she held a concert master position in the Columbus Symphony Orchestra Youth Chamber Group. While attending Olentangy High School, Katrina held the concert master position of the top orchestra during her Sophomore, Junior and Senior years and qualified for Ohio Music Education Association All-State orchestra twice. Upon attending Bowling Green State University, she majored in Music Education maintaining close to a 4.0 GPA and played violin in their Symphonia orchestra. Even as a student, she would compel her friends to do better with her friendly competitive nature.  During her senior year, she landed concert master and primary 2nd violin positions on various pieces. Throughout junior high and high school, Katrina participated in many different groups including, Fairfield Strings & Keyboards in which she played for community events and weddings. During high school, she participated in Chamber Music Connections for 3 years. She also worked with the Westerville, Central Ohio and Lancaster Festival Community Orchestras.

In addition to her performance experience, Katrina had developed the love of teaching violin and piano. Due to her compassion and patience, she excelled as a teacher. She had up to 6-7 private violin/piano students. Teaching was a pure joy for her. She was truly a kid magnet. She loved assisting with teaching Pre-K kids at church and also taught/coached in Olentangy Strings Camp and the Ohio State University strings camps.

Katrina was always a gentle ray of sunshine that brightened any room she entered.  The day Katrina’s little brother Nick was born, she took being the “big-sister” very seriously.  Her humility, patience, and genuine caring nature for children, especially special needs kids like Nick, would always have her using her gifts to help teach others.  Teaching was becoming second nature.   It didn’t matter whether it was violin, piano, Bible school, or something trivial, she had the unique talent of challenging without overwhelming and correcting mistakes in an inspirational way that kept everyone motivated. She would cheer them on and praise even the smallest of accomplishments. She was always interested in what they were doing in school and in their hobbies and spent time being their friend, so much more than a music teacher. Her laughter and joy were contagious. She had a heart of gold.

Friendship was so important to Katrina.  She opened herself to her friends.  She made sure nobody ate lunch alone.  If she could help studying at test time, she was there.  She was able to look at the bright side, to live in the moment & feel the joy & happiness you get from friendship.  Katrina’s optimism, upbeat personality, and self-deprecating humility allowed her to be that true friend who would tell you what you needed to hear instead of what you wanted to hear.  Katrina and her big brother Alex would play weddings and special occasions.  Katrina even allowed herself to be talked into playing paintball by Alex because she loved being with her big brother. For a few years, Katrina would go “busking” in front of Graeter’s Ice Cream in Westerville playing her violin for hours for those passing by.  She would amaze many with her ability to perform with no music and bring a smile & happiness to those she played for, especially the kids.

Though Katrina waited until age 17 to be baptized, her dedication to God & church was absolute.  Her gentle, humble, submission to God was the cornerstone and basis for every step she took.  She started out in life with a musical gift from God and with the help of Fairfield Christian Academy, the Laurel Canyon Church of Christ, and the Bowling Green Church of Christ she was able to learn how to live life for God, herself & others.  Church wasn’t a social event to get a checkmark for attendance, it was an opportunity to be nearer to her God.  She loved to sing hymns and try to understand what was being taught.  She could always be counted on as that little reminder that “…is that what Jesus would want us to do /say?”  Katrina honestly did walk the walk.

Katrina’s family was her mainstay and she was the poster child for the team player.  When the times were hard, “Trina” was there.  No circumstance or request made her flinch.  She would roll up her sleeves & dig in for her family.  Moving to Galena would not have been possible without Katrina. Everyone else was preparing the house to sell; Katrina, a 9th grader, took care of Nick, cooked food, and anything else she could do for about a month until the sale was final.  She even volunteered to learn how to mow with our zero-turn mower.  We are all the closest of friends…we love, we live, we laugh, we cry with God, as one.  One of our best friends, our buddy, our confidant, our helper, our little girl, has gone home.

Our lives, nor anyone who knew her, will ever be the same without our dear Katrina.  Her shining smile, bubbly personality, and total humility was amazingly infectious to the point you just wanted to be around her and to talk to her because she made you feel better.  Her students just loved her and kids would follow her like the Pied Piper. Her teachers enjoyed having her as a student because she gave back as much as they gave her.  Her violin teachers in particular became family to her. Heaven has gained one of the most amazing souls we have ever known.  She was more to us than the written word can convey.

In God’s bouquet, only the finest flowers are used.

Katrina or “Trina” as she was known to her family is survived by her parents Richard & Laura (Chris) Carrico of Galena, OH; younger brother Nicholas (Nick) Carrico of Galena, OH, older brother Alexander (Alex), wife Hannah, and nephew Isaac Carrico of Columbus, OH; devoted boyfriend Seth Richard of Columbus OH; Grandparents James (Jim) and Mary Sue (Sue) Tate of Weirton, WV; Uncle & Aunt Robert (Bob) & Linda Willison; Aunt Sharon Rowan of Rochester, PA; Uncle & Aunt Steve & BethAnn Gorby of Chester, WV; Uncle Joe Carrico of Georgetown, PA, and numerous cousins and friends.
