Martin J. Jones Jr., (Marty) longtime resident of Westerville, passed away suddenly March 4 at St. Ann's Hospital. Born July 14, 1943 in Pittsburgh, PA he grew up in Wheeling, WV. He graduated from the college of Journalism Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wi. Martin served in the United States Army as a public information specialist at Fort Buchanan Puerto Rico. He retired from the U.S. Forest Service as a scientific editor after 33 years. A gifted writer, he authored "Time Piece" which was presented by the Westerville Curtain Players and the Green Bay (WI) Community Theater. He loved to cook, host dinner parties, baseball (in particular the Boston Red Sox) and play video poker. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin J. and Cecelia McGrath Jones, as well as his brother, Leonard Jones. Martin is survived by his wife, Gloria, daughter, Lorri Jones, son, Daniel, daughter-in-law, Lianne, and granddaughter, Delaney Jones, all of Westerville. Also a sister, Cecelia Jones of Wheeling, WV; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Daryl and Phyllis Vincent and Donald and Connie Babler, all of Green Bay,WI. Also surviving are nephews Bryan (Carissa) Vincent of St. Louis Park, MN and David Babler, Green Bay; nieces Sarah (Greg) Kassimer, Pittsburgh, PA and Kari Kerschke, Green Bay. Visitation hours will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 10 at St. Paul Catholic Church, 313 N. State St Westerville with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Rev. Fr. Michael Hinterschied celebrant. Marty’s rare sense of humor will be missed by family, many devoted friends and his walking companions at the Westerville Community Center, the Alum Creakers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Delaney Jones Education Fund.
