I have many memories of growing up with Tom, this one is particularly special. I will always fondly remember my brother referring to me as ‘little one’. He was my 6 ft. tall strapping brother and I was his 5’5”, 125 lbs. soaking wet, little sister. I always felt that he protected and looked out for me. He went off to Midland Lutheran College and when it was my time to pick a school I wanted to go where he was. Even there I felt he was watching over me. He vetted the guys that wanted to take me out and would have to give his approval, I always felt safe. That feeling didn’t wane as the years went on. Even though we didn’t see much of each other there was an underlying sense that he would always be there if I needed him and I for him.

I’m so proud of the man my brother turned out to be. Despite many challenges in our upbringing, he became a gentle and loving man with a formidable sense of humor. I see all these traits in his beautiful daughter, Michelle. Tom’s sudden and unexpected death has left a hole in my heart but I’m thankful that he is at peace and free of pain. As much as I will miss him I know we’ll be united again. I love you Tom, you will always be my big brother.
