Our History

The Frank E. Hill Funeral Home has roots deep in the history of Westerville, Ohio. The Frank E. Hill Funeral Home was formed in 1952 when Frank Hill acquired the Stockdale Memorial Funeral Home which was founded in the 1890's. As such, the funeral home has ties with much of the past history of the community. This inheritance of community involvement continues through two generations of the Hill family.

It has been our privilege to serve the Westerville, Columbus, and surrounding communities for years. To them and other families, we offer the highest degree of service and performance available. We take great pride in maintaining this acquired reputation.

The Hill Funeral Home is established upon service to families. We respect your wishes at all times and strive to meet the special needs and requests from you and your family, both when planning ahead and at time of need. Together we can develop plans to meet your current and future needs. We take pride in knowing the overall services we provide are not surpassed by any firm in central Ohio. The Hill Funeral Home has consistently received praise from much the area clergy as providing the highest degree of professionalism and quality of overall service available from all the local funeral establishments.

In 1958, the Hill Funeral Home relocated from 65 S. State Street to its present location at 220 S. State Street. Sitting on over four acres, the building has enjoyed ample space for expansion over the years. The most recent expansion took place in 1989. The funeral home now offers one of the largest and finest facilities in central Ohio complete with two large separate chapels and ample room to provide for up to five family viewing areas. We can comfortably accommodate the needs of Westerville and its surrounding areas. The interior color decor throughout the building consists of warm, home-like colors in light blues, whites and golds as opposed to the dark and cold decor found in many of the funeral homes in the area. We have been honored with countless compliments by our visitors regarding on how nice our facilities compare to other funeral homes. We have proudly accomplished all this while keeping our prices very competitive if not lower than other firms.

Frank Hill's community involvement became clearly evident early on as he was not only a charter member of the Westerville Rotary Club, but a founding member or the Westerville Businessman's Assoc., the predecessor to the Westerville Area Chamber of Commerce. One example of Frank Hill's commitment to the betterment of the community happened shortly after the Westerville Fire Department started providing emergency ambulance service. When their ambulance was involved in an accident and out of service for repairs, Frank Hill immediately made his ambulance and equipment available to the Fire Department so they could continue to respond to the emergency needs the community expected of them. All this was donated to the city with no compensation asked or expected. Frank Hill continues his community involvement through his ongoing efforts with the Aladdin Shrine. He holds memberships in all Westerville Masonic Bodies where he is past secretary. Frank has also been involved in theCentral Oho Funeral Director Assoc. through manycommittees as well as a Past President. He is also Past Adjutant of American Legion Post 171.

Frank's wife, Marilyn A. Hill is also a licensed funeral director and actively involved in the funeral home. She has been involved in many local activities including working on various committees within her church. She has worked on community ecumenical programs, is a member of Mizpah Chapter OES, Westerville Women's Club, Ladies Oriental Shrine and served as Business Manager for Village Voices music group during its 10 years of existence.

Frank Hill. Jr. has continued this community involvement in many ways himself. As a Jaycee for over 16 years, Frank Jr., not only chaired the Westerville Christmas parade for many years but also helped raised funds through the Jaycees for numerous projects including over $16,000 for soccer fields, a rescue boat for the fire department, and donations to the Senior Center. He has served on many boards including Board of Trustees for the Westerville Area Chamber of Commerce, Advisory Board for the Westerville Fund, Chairman of the Board for the Westerville Jaycee Pool, and is a charter member of the Westerville Sunrise Rotary Club.
